SONG UPDATE History
|
The Melville School song
was a joy to create as a special project, with the outgoing 4th graders in 2006! Now, 10 years later, as time passed, many things had changed at the school, and it was time to update the verses. The 2016 3rd graders were invited to participate to brainstorm from their perspective, including what's special about our school, to share ideas, images, phrases and stories, and help envision an updated crafting of the 2 primary verses, that would be able be both current and last over time. Along the way we would learn more about the school and about the song-writing process as well. Honoring the legacy of the original song, the song structure, melody, refrain and bridge were kept the same, with a whole new Verse 1 that gave more focus to the special location and mission of Melville School here on Aquidneck Island. It also made reference to "Squirt the Whale" the school mascot, and to being a Feinstein Leadership School, where we could "Follow our Dreams." Verse 2 included a more general overview, to capture the essence of fun learning experiences & activities, and that would help to celebrate the bright spirit of Melville School that would continue into the future and last for years to come!
